Home Inspector Harold Hewitt

Meet Harold Hewitt – Owner & Inspector

Harold Hewitt brings dedication, craftsmanship, and a deep sense of responsibility to every inspection he performs. With years of hands-on experience in construction and remodeling, Harold approaches each home as if his own family were moving in—because that’s how seriously he takes your investment and your safety. Whether it’s a cozy starter home or a million-dollar estate, Harold gives every property the same level of attention, care, and respect.

Before founding Top Down Home Inspections, Harold spent 10 years as a Union laborer, working closely with skilled carpenters and tradesmen on all types of residential projects. He’s remodeled entire homes, finished basements, built decks, and handled everything from framing to landscaping. That boots-on-the-ground experience shows in every detail he catches during an inspection. Today, he combines that background with professional certifications to offer clients the highest level of service and education.

When Not Inspecting

He’s also passionate about serving at his local church, where he finds purpose in giving back to his community. Staying active is important to him, and you’ll often find him fitting in a workout to keep both mind and body strong.

Credentials, Experience, & Approach

Harold is a licensed home inspector in both Illinois and Indiana, an InterNACHI Certified Professional Inspector, an NRRP Radon Measurement Professional, and an FAA-certified drone pilot. These credentials help him provide a more complete and informed inspection, from rooftop to foundation.
With strong roots in the trades, Harold has worked side by side with union carpenters—including his father, brother, brother-in-law, and nephews—giving him a deep understanding of how homes are built and how they wear over time.
Harold prides himself on being approachable and informative. He stays onsite until all photos are reviewed on his laptop and every question is answered, making sure each client walks away feeling confident and well-informed.
